At the age of 29, Davis is already a three-weight world champion, but the pinnacle of his career so far, the sensational 7th-round knockout of Ryan Garcia, was swiftly followed by the shameful low of a 44-day stint in prison last summer. Davis won the WBA (Regular) lightweight title in 2019. He has defended the belt four times, with his last title defense coming in January 2023 against Hector Luis Garcia. The two-division champion is known for intimidating his opponents heading into fight night. He has attempted to do the dame against Martin, who he knows well from sparring sessions.

The Mexican Monster went up in weight to fight against the former WBC light heavyweight champion. A win against the Ukrainian would open the doors to Benavidez to a potential mega-fight against the winner of the Dmitry Bivol vs Artur Beterbiev clash.
The Baltimore native spent some time in jail following that fight but is now ready to defend his WBA lightweight title once again.
Martin represents a tricky challenge for Davis, having beaten Michel Rivera and Artem Harutyunyan in his last two bouts.
Davis will have to be on his A-game to produce an elite performance after so much time away from the ring, but if anyone has the sniper-like precision to get the job done, Davis does.
The bout will be the first time that Davis makes the walk to the ring after knocking out Ryan Garcia in April 2023. He'll get another notable opponent here as the unbeaten Martin is ranked fifth among lightweights by ESPN.

Davis is still a massive favorite despite the longest layoff of his career. However, Martin hasn't fought in over a year as well so the potential for ring rust is a thing both fighters will have to overcome.
Davis' layoff was partially caused by a 44-day stint in a Baltimore detention center. Davis was found to have violated his house arrest and had to serve the rest of his sentence at the facility. He believes the time has helped him as a man and will be reflected in his performance in the ring.
